Audio Software for Sound Editing
Once you’ve recorded your mp3 and are ready to input it to your computer, you’ll need an audio software program to comb through your “first draft”!
I enjoy usingĀ Sony Audio Studio (for PC). This is where I remove unwanted lip sounds, inconsistent breathing sounds, adjust volume and reverb as necessary, etc. There is a pricey option to acquire a Noise-Canceling software add-on (retail: $299) which I highly recommend. It’s an investment that has far more than tripled its value. This reduces the “shhhhhuuueuususs” white noise sound that usually is faint in the background of some audio mixers or microphones — this is why it is best not to turn on the ceiling fan when recording

After editing the sound carefully, I like to use an additional program called Sony Music Studio. Create a workstation where you can multitask between audio programs with ease. Create a space where you can visually see and adjust multiple overlaying tracks to overlay them as necessary with panning or volume envelopes.
Another option is an “all-in-one” program like Sonar Cakewalk. Exercise cautionĀ if you move the program to too many computers or have too many computer crashes, the license will stop working. This program allows for easy installations of VST plugins an impressive selection of panning abilities!
Some people like Audacity, but I’ve never used it so I can’t vouch for it.
For Mac users, I’ve heard excellent reviews about an audio program called Apple Logic Studio. They even have a How-To section and several forums online have discussions about Logic usage. There are also at least 11,000 Logic training videos on YouTube absolutely free!
These are my favorites…
