Choosing A Microphone
When shopping microphones online for your erotic hypnosis needs, I highly recommend Musician’s Friend. Expect to spend $200-$300 for a quality microphone. Sometimes you can get a GREAT deal for under $100 but read the reviews first! Higher quality microphones can run in the thousands of dollars and are usually designed for symphony orchestras.
Please beware of Microphones that have a USB on the end. Trust me. I doubt any business professional could be satisfied with the sound quality (that’s not to say your boyfriend or girlfriend won’t mind one bit). There is high demand for quality erotic hypnosis content. A small investment is necessary — and it’s money you’ll recover and profit from very quickly if you’re serious in putting forth creative effort AND great hardware and software.
For females, I suggest recording into Audio Technica microphones. They get rave reviews AND their brand of microphones are sometimes used at the Grammies. Audio Technica microphones are especially pleasing to the female voice with emphasis on high soprano pitch and alto jazz voices. For men, I suggest microphones made by Shure which produces a handsome bass flavor to the male voice.
Be sure to get a condensor microphone to really amplify the clarity and fullness of your voice.
Recommended accessories to go with your microphone:
1) A double pop filter screen (this prevents hard “p” and “s” sounds when you speak, also reduces wind resistance into microphone), a microphone stand or tripod mic, and various cables (you’ll need at least one cable to go with your microphone to connect to your recording sound machine.)
2) Forget an ordinary pop filter. Consider using a cast iron lid to a medium-sized cauldron to amplify the voice a slight metal sound to create a more natural reverb. These cauldrons are available online and from your local new age store. Traditionally these are used for burning coals. Any lid without a whole in it will produce that rich vibrant sound AND keep every sound congruent. Very minimal post-editing required.
Talk away from the microphone so hard words aren’t emphasized – and speak closer when you want to whisper
For more awesome goodness, resist the urge to hold the mic in your hand. To keep the sound congruent, acquire a microphone stand or mic tripod which will have a mount for securing the base. This is called a shock mount. This will allow you to read your script or record off the cuff with much ease. This also allows unbroken interruption of default silence when you aren’t speaking into the mic. As you speak, take notice of the distance between your mouth and the microphone. Memorize where you have it in case you need to stop and re-record. The distance between the mouth and the microphone is important to remain consistent throughout the session to make editing a breeze! The purpose of keeping the distance equal is for congruent sound.
Be sure to use a pop filter – or round circular screen in front of the microphone which you talk behind – to reduce “hard” sounds the voice often makes. The letter “p” and “b” and “s” can sometimes be over-emphasized and the function of the pop filter is to prevent those heavy air sounds from reaching the recording device in the microphone. These are approximately $15-25. Some pop filters have cheap clasps that move a lot during recording, so it might be good to shop for a strong secure clip at the base of the filter. Talk a few inches behind the screen to reduce the chance of the mouth accidentally bumping the screen. That bump is called sound interference. Most interference can be combed out or re-recorded.
Another option is to record on your iPhone using the built-in Voice Memo app free! I’ve gone from using thousands of dollars of microphone equipment to using my iPhone almost exclusively.
Brando Workshop Flexible Mini Capsule Microphone for iPhone/iPad is a microphone attachment I use on my iPhone 4S when I record. It enables you to record better sound quality. Instead of receiving sound from the iPhone speaker at the bottom, your iPhone can receive sound from any direction. It is especially useful while shooting video as the microphone and the camera can be pointed to the same direction. Bend and turn the microphone to the desired direction to focus sound source. Flexible mini capsule microphone gains 25+ dB, sound clarity increases as well as sound quality improves. It works on iPhone 3G S, iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G, iPod Nano 4G, iPad, and iPhone 4/4S. It boasts 10 times audio reception.
I recorded The Enchantress and The Temptress using this microphone attachment on my iPhone.
